Winter Storm Quid Brought Heavy Snow and Strong Winds From Plains to Great Lakes

Winter Storm Quid dumped over a foot of snow on parts of the Midwest Feb. 23-24 across some of the same areas that had just smashed record highs before the storm arrived. Quid also brought snow to the mountain West on Feb. 22.

Drifting snow and poor visibility with winds gusting over 35 mph prompted the shut down of Interstate 80 in southern Wyoming from Laramie to Rawlins early Feb. 23.

An avalanche near the Snowbird Ski Area southeast of Salt Lake City buried cars on the evening of Feb. 23, but nobody was hurt. 

Lincoln, Nebraska, reported thundersnow on the evening of Feb. 23. Blizzard conditions were observed late Feb. 23 in Mason City, Iowa, and Forest City, Iowa. 

Thundersnow was then reported early Feb. 24 in parts of the northern Lower Michigan, including Kalkaska and Interlochen and in Wisconsin near Wausau.

Record daily snowfall was recorded in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Feb. 24. 

Portions of southeastern Nebraska and northern Iowa saw freezing rain. Omaha saw 0.25 inches and Hastings saw 0.22 inches of ice. A tenth of an inch of ice was reported near Stanley, Iowa.
