15 Thoughts Every Commuter Has on Their Way to Work

Let's face it: sometimes your commute can be a walk in the park, but more likely it's a pretty rote part of your day. On occasion weather and extreme traffic can make things interesting (to put it mildly), but usually you go through the same motions Monday through Friday.

If that sounds about right, you can probably relate to these 15 thoughts every commuter has on their way to work. From the frustration of being cut off by the same car every day to the joy of hearing your favorite song come on the radio, these are common feelings we all know all too well.

1. When you fasten your seatbelt and immediately remember your coffee mug/lunch/presentation notes on the counter: enter internal debate about whether you should just leave it there.

2. When you turn on the radio and your favorite song comes on: you think to yourself, “I got this!”

3. When cars on the road are spaced just right so you can’t make the one impossible left hand turn on your commute. Every. Single. Day. Shake my head.

4. When that little red sports car cuts you off for the third day in a row: you shake your fist in their general direction in hopes that they see you in the rear view mirror.

5. When you drive pass the highway entrance and it’s still under construction: “Really?!”

6. When the morning commute gods grant you an extra long green light and you make it through the intersection: “YES!”

8. When you’re halfway to work and have a sinking feeling you didn’t close the garage door…

9. When you’re stuck in traffic and start thinking about your schedule for the day, it immediately begs the question: “Am I dressed up enough for that meeting with my boss’s boss?”

10. When you curse your city’s microclimates because you could have sworn it wasn’t supposed to rain at your back at your house.

11. When everyone on the road slows to a grinding halt to gawk at the guy who was pulled over for speeding: you’re simultaneously upset at your peers, but also glad it’s not you (to be honest, it could have been you pushing 75 mph a few minutes back).

12. When you go to your coffee shop and they’re sold out of your daily doughnut: “fine,” you think, “I’ll settle for the blueberry muffin instead.”

13. When you get to work and your favorite parking spot is taken: you grumble to yourself and vow to beat the spot stealer tomorrow.

14. When you turn off your car and check your phone to see multiple urgent e-mails from clients: you yell at your phone futilely, “don’t you know I’m not at work yet?”

15. But despite all of the delays and other headaches, you still make it to your desk three minutes before you’re supposed to be online: deep sigh of relief.
