For the second time in just two weeks, heavy rain and flooding closed a major interstate in the Detroit metro.

Less than 2 inches of rain fell Tuesday afternoon, but it was more than the poorly-draining freeway could handle.

Interstate-94 has been temporarily closed in several places, according to the Metro Detroit DOT.

According to WDIV tv, as many as 150,000 customers have lost power.

The National Weather Service says winds reaching 60 mph in Wayne County's Canton Township near Detroit and in Washtenaw County's Pittsfield Township near Ann Arbor. It says a 2-foot-diameter tree fell in Redford, near Detroit.

WXYZ-TV says investigators in the Detroit suburb of Taylor are trying to determine whether a lightning strike caused a blaze that heavily damaged a second-floor unit at the Taylor Woods apartment complex.

The closures may feel like deja vu in Detroit, happening just two weeks after 4-7 inches of rain on August 11 hammered the metro. More than 34,000 structures were flooded in some way, and could cost as much as $1.2 billion after insurance claims are filed.
