Residents in Delaware, New Jersey, New York and eastern Pennsylvania are either delighted or disappointed in the fact that their first snow has arrived. Several areas are experiencing a light blanket of snowfall.
The National Weather Service reported up to 2.5 inches of snow in the tiny burg of Huffs Church near Reading, Pennsylvania. The top total as of late Thursday evening in New Jersey was 2.2 inches in Highland Lakes. Many areas, however, saw the flakes melt upon contact with the ground.
Philadelphia reported its first official snowflakes of the season, but they only fell for 49 minutes and were mixed at times with rain at Philadelphia International Airport. Wilmington, Delaware, also saw its first flakes of the season. A cold rain fell in New York City with temperatures in the upper 30s.
Some very light snow was also reported in parts of north-central Maryland and northern Virginia on Thursday.
