A quick-moving clipper brought a burst of snow that began just before dawn. The slick roads made the drive tough on commuters as well as anyone heading out for the holiday a bit early.

The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports “the Crosstown resembled a demolition derby” between 7:45 a.m. and 8:15 a.m because there were so many crashes.

Interstate 35 southbound looked more like a parking lot after a wreck near Fairbault closed lanes for a few hours.

Delays for arriving flights at Minneapolis-St. Paul International climbed to 90 minutes before lunchtime, but shrank significantly by early afternoon.

The snow is expected to come to an end by the afternoon before moving south and eventually heading to the midAtlantic by Thursday morning.
