Winter Storm Leon Dumps Sleet, Snow, Freezing Rain on Mobile, Ala.

Roads in and around Mobile, Ala. remained a slick, dangerous, icy mess Wednesday, just a day after Winter Storm Leon dumped more than an inch of sleet, snow, and freezing rain on the southern hub.

Mobile County spokesperson Nancy Johnson told al.com that the driving conditions were "dire," saying, “It’s not navigable right now. Our crews are out there and they are calling ambulances for people going off roads every which way."

The Alabama Department of Transportation also told al.com that all interstates, bridges, and highways were considered "closed or impassible." Major closures include Hillcrest Road, the Cochrane Bridge, Hope Bridge, I-10 at I-65, Eastbound Wallace Tunnel, and Westbound Bankhead Tunnel.
