New York Tri-State Slammed By Thunderstorms: Flooding Closes Main Roads

Heavy rain slammed the New York City Tri-state Tuesday afternoon, knocking out power and snarling the evening commute.

Flooding closed several main thoroughfares, including the Cross Bronx Expressway at Jerome Avenue. In White Plains, southbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway were shut down, along with two miles of the Hutchinson River Parkway in Mount Vernon.

Flight delays stacked up at LaGuardia, JFK, Newark and Philadelphia International. More than 700 flights were canceled at the four airports combined. Delays stretched into the 90-minute range.
