Do You Live in the State with the Worst Drivers?

Is it just you or does everyone else in your state drive like a 95 year old with cataracts? According to a recent study, it may not just be you.

The 2013 study reveals which states have the best and worst drivers, drawing on data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the National Motorists Association and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

Conducted by the website CarInsuranceComparison.com, the study of 50 states and Washington D.C. based its conclusions on certain statistics: frequency of failure to obey traffic signs and wear seat belts, fatality rates on the road, drunk driving offenses, traffic tickets and careless driving incidents.

The researchers found a correlation between careless driving and fatality rates. According to the study, of the 15 states with best drivers, only four ranked in the bottom 50 percent for careless driving. The study also suggests that the best drivers have one thing in common: they all take great care to pay attention to the road.

Six of the top 10 states with the best drivers are in the North East. Meanwhile, the five states with the worst drivers are all in the South. Better luck next year, Southerners! Hopefully, drivers in those five states can embrace some of their natural Southern hospitality on the road.
