Winter Storm Pax Travel Problems Linger Into Friday

Winter Storm Pax brought heavy ice, rain and heavy snow that snarled traffic along the East Coast well into Friday morning.

More than 6,900 domestic and international flights were canceled Thursday alone, according to flight-tracking website FlightAware.com.  At one point both Washington Dulles International airport and Ronald Reagan Washington National airport were closed Thursday due to heavy snow. By Friday morning there were still roughly 1,300 flight cancelations nationwide.

Meanwhile, dangerous driving conditions continued early Friday in the wake of heavy snow from Winter Storm Pax. A massive pileup on the Pennsylvania Turnpike involving at least 100 cars injured dozens and shutdown traffic from Bensalem to Willow Grove. In fact, a large portion of deaths from Winter Storm Pax could be attributed to the treacherous roads.

And after numerous delays and cancelations most rail service returned back to normal Friday. According to Amtrak's website, lines will operate on all Keystone Service from New York to Harrisburg and most Northeast Regional service from Boston to Washington. Amtrak told customers to expect reduced service on Acela Express between Washington and Boston as well as Empire Service between New York City and Albany, NY. Full details are here.

Amtrak says it is contacting customers and changing reservations.
