Photographer Ervin Boer has a multitude of passions that include cars, travel and photography. So when The Great Rally Company asked Boer to accompany them on a road trip, he couldn’t be more thrilled.

“The trip was incredible,” Boer told weather.com. “I love cars, I love to travel, so this was the perfect holiday for me.” The Great Rally Company specializes in facilitating automotive events throughout Europe and the United Kingdom, designing driving tours of the ultimate, most scenic driving experiences.

This year, its European Rally will take drivers through five European countries, covering a whopping 1,250 miles in a span of six days. The tour begins in Brussels, Belgium at the Autoworld Car Museum and proceeds through three cities in Germany, eight in Switzerland, three in Italy and finally two in Austria, with a final stop in Salzburg.

The collaboration came to fruition when the founder of the Great Rally Company was searching for a pair of driving gloves. A few clicks later, he discovered Boer’s photography work — Boer is a brand ambassador and co-founder of a driving glove brand.

Though Boer has had plenty of travel experiences, he said many were often getaways to specific resorts or cities designed for relaxation. “The Great European Rally trip is all about driving and enjoying landscapes all day long,” he said. “My favorite place is to be on the road, constantly moving.”

Every aspect of the rally was enjoyable, he said. Having sunny weather for all six days contributed to it, especially since they created the perfect conditions for his photo work. It’s one thing to view a beautiful landscape, another to capture it.

“Everyday was a challenge,” Boer said. When approaching scenic backdrops and particularly photogenic mountain passes or curves, he had to arrange and organize the drivers of the rally for the shot.

“I had moments when I had to hang out of the window,” he said, adding, “art needs sacrifice and hard work.”

The hard work has paid off. Boer considers himself lucky to do what he enjoys, and earn money from it. “I think this is the best reward by doing what you love,” he said. “You don’t have to ‘work’ one single day for the rest of your life.”
