2025's Hottest Solo Travel Destination Revealed—And It's Not Where You Think

Would you ever take a solo international trip? According to luxury travel service Kensington, solo world travel is expected to continue to trend this year. A survey administered by the group found that 76% of respondents are extremely to somewhat open to travelling internationally by themselves over the next three years. But where to go? Well, Kensington also has released their rankings of the top ten international solo travel destinations, and some them might surprise you.

The number one ranked international solo travel destination? India. “From the vibrant streets of Jaipur to the tranquil backwaters of Kerala, India’s diversity ensures that every traveler finds something extraordinary,” Anit Singh, Kensington’s destination expert for the Indian subcontinent, told Travel + Leisure. According to the report, India’s alluring depth of history and culture” is something that “many travelers dream of for decades, “making a visit there more of a culmination than just a vacation.

Second in the rankings? Italy. Japan, Egypt and Thailand round out the top five, each of them well-suited to cater to solo travelers’ desires to, as the Kensington report states, fulfill “a unique personal dream” by finding “experiences and places that are outside the mainstream.”

Kensington’s report also reveals changing tastes in when people are travelling, in addition to where. According to Kensington's statistics, travelers are increasingly choosing off-peak seasons in order to take advantage of more pleasant weather conditions, with African summer tourism jumping 34%, European autumn visits rising 8%, and fall travel to Asia also increasing by 8%.
