Sometimes it can be hard to see the world from any perspective other than your own, but viewed from the sky, the Earth can become a strange and magnificent place. 

Although photography was first invented in 1826, it wasn't until 1908 that L. P. Bonvillain took a photo from a plane flown by Wilbur Wright, says Mental Floss. Before then, aerial photography was limited to what could be done using kites and hot air balloons. But since the advent of airplanes, humans have made countless journeys above the Earth and marveled at the world spread out beneath us.
