Lingering instability from a Kona low that had already caused extensive flooding on the North Shore of Oahu led to torrents of rain falling Monday in parts of Honolulu. Reddish-brown geysers gushed along roads in the Manoa Valley, a few miles east of downtown Honolulu, sweeping away parked cars and swamping much of the neighborhood. The downpour was highly localized. One rain gauge in the upper part of the valley recorded 6 inches, according to the Associated Press, while the airport a few miles away got just one-hundredth of an inch.
