On the shores of Okinawa, Japan, an American photographer witnessed something amazing. Hermit crabs were crawling into plastic bottle caps, using them as their home instead of shells. Illegal trafficking of hermit crabs as pets, overfishing, and beach pollution are endangering these tiny creatures that are a critical part of our coastal ecosystem.
