...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM MDT SUNDAY... WHAT...Periods of heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 7 and 14 inches, greatest over the higher hills. Locally higher totals are possible. Winds gusting as high as 50 mph early this evening, decreasing overnight. WHERE...Portions of central and south central Montana. WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to 6 AM MDT Sunday. IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible at times. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday evening and Friday commutes. Conditions may threaten young livestock. ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will begin to develop over the area this evening, increasing overnight into Friday. Periods of snow will continue through Saturday night. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. WHERE...Portions of central, south central, and southeast Montana. WHEN...From 6 AM to 9 PM MDT Thursday. IMPACTS...Extreme wind gusts could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult for high profile vehicles. Any sparked fires in dry grasses will spread rapidly. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... People are urged to secure loose objects that could be blown around or damaged by the wind. Remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Watch for falling debris and tree limbs. Use caution if you must drive. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution and consider postponing travel until winds subside, or take an alternate route. Please avoid activities that could spark fires.
