The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Tornado Warning for... East central Kankakee County in northeastern Illinois... Northwestern Newton County in northwestern Indiana... Southwestern Lake County in northwestern Indiana... Until 730 PM CDT. At 654 PM CDT, a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado was located over Hopkins Park, or near Momence, moving east at 25 mph. This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. TAKE COVER NOW! HAZARD...Damaging tornado. SOURCE...Weather spotters confirmed tornado. IMPACT...You are in a life-threatening situation. Flying debris may be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be destroyed. Considerable damage to homes, businesses, and vehicles is likely and complete destruction is possible. The tornado will be near... Hopkins Park around 700 PM CDT. Lake Village around 705 PM CDT. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... To repeat, a large, extremely dangerous and potentially deadly tornado is on the ground. To protect your life, TAKE COVER NOW! ...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 800 PM CDT FOR EASTERN WILL...EASTERN KANKAKEE...NORTHERN NEWTON AND SOUTHERN LAKE COUNTIES... At 700 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Grant Park, or 7 miles northeast of Momence, moving east at 35 mph. THIS IS A DESTRUCTIVE STORM FOR AREAS ON AND NEAR THE KANKAKEE RIVER. HAZARD...Three inch hail and 60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Trained weather spotters. IMPACT...People and animals outdoors will be severely injured. Expect shattered windows, extensive damage to roofs, siding, and vehicles. Locations impacted include... Crown Point, Cedar Lake, Lowell, Lake Village, Lakes of the Four Seasons, Winfield, Roselawn, Lake Dalecarlia, Grant Park, Hopkins Park, Shelby, Schneider, Thayer, and Sumava Resorts. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 1100 PM CDT for northeastern and east central Illinois...and northwestern Indiana. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. This is a dangerous storm. For the Small Craft Advisory, northwest winds to 30 kt and significant waves to 10 ft occasionally to 13 ft expected. WHERE...Gary to Michigan City, IN. WHEN...For the Dense Fog Advisory, until 10 PM CDT this evening. For the Small Craft Advisory, from 10 AM Wednesday to 10 AM CDT Thursday. IMPACTS...Conditions will be hazardous to small craft. Low visibility will make navigation difficult. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... WHEN...Through late tonight. IMPACTS...Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas. Underpasses may be flooded. Roads and streets may be flooded. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms with rainfall rates up to 1 to 2 inches per hour will be possible from late this afternoon until late this evening.
