The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Maui in Maui County Until 300 AM HST. At 1055 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the island of Maui. Rain was falling at a rate of 1.5 to 2 inches per hour. The heaviest rain continues to fall over the south-facing slopes and coasts from Maalaea Bay to Kihei to Makena to Kipahulu. Additionally, Emergency Management reported several roads closed in Kihei and Lahaina due to heavy flooding. HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Significant and life threatening flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low lying areas. Multiple public road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Kahului, Kihei, Lahaina, Kula, Pukalani, Makawao, Keokea, Haliimaile, Paia, Puunene, Haiku-Pauwela, Wailea, Pauwela, Maalaea, Huelo, Ulupalakua, Makena, Waikapu, Wailuku and Waiehu. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don't drown. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. This warning may need to be extended beyond 300 AM HST if flooding; persists.; FLASH FLOOD...RADAR INDICATED; FLASH FLOOD DAMAGE THREAT...CONSIDERABLE

At 1151 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over Molokai, falling at a rate of half an inch to an inch per hour. Emergency Management reported high water flowing over Kamehameha Highway near mile marker 6, and that it remains open only to 4 wheel drive vehicles at this time. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... The entire island of Molokai. WHERE...Island wide strong gusty winds are possible, but areas most at risk are communities north and east of steep mountains. WHEN...Until 6 AM HST Sunday. IMPACTS...Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines and damage roofs. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Strong winds may lead to property damage. Hazardous driving conditions due to powerful cross winds will pose a serious risk for drivers, especially for light weight and high profile vehicles. IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels.
