Inexperienced mariners, especially those operating smaller vessels, should avoid navigating in hazardous conditions.

Description

The areas affected include... Waters from Edisto Beach SC to Savannah GA out 40 NM... Waters from Savannah GA to Altamaha Sound GA out 60 NM... At 922 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. These strong thunderstorms were located along a line from 15 miles southeast of Wassaw Island to 47 miles southeast of Tybee Island, moving northeast at 40 mph. Locations impacted include... Fripp Island. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, lightning strikes, and heavy downpours. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. These thunderstorms will likely produce winds to around 30 knots, and could pose a serious hazard for boaters. A Special Marine Warning may eventually be required. Boaters should consider heading for shore before the storm arrives.
