...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM HST THIS EVENING FOR THE ISLAND OF HAWAII IN HAWAII COUNTY... At 740 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the western Kona slopes of the Big Island. A large heavy rain band is moving into the Kona slopes and heavy rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Significant and life threatening flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low lying areas. Multiple public road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Kealakekua, Kainaliu, Honaunau, Honalo, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Holualoa, Kalaoa, Pohakuloa Training Area, Kona International Airport, Milolii and Hawaii Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don't drown. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County Until 930 PM HST. At 744 PM HST, radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain falling over the Kau and Puna District southeast slopes of the Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour with additional heavy rainfall moving in from the west. Flash flooding is ongoing and Highway 11 is closed at several locations due to flooding. HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Significant and life threatening flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low lying areas. Multiple public road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Hawaiian Paradise Park, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Wood Valley, Pahala, Volcano, Glenwood, Punaluu Beach, Kawa Flats, Mountain View, Naalehu, Hawaiian Acres, Orchidlands Estates, Keaau, Pahoa, Hawaiian Ocean View, Fern Forest, Eden Roc, Fern Acres and Waiohinu. WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Sunday. IMPACTS...Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines and damage roofs. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Strong winds may lead to property damage. Hazardous driving conditions due to powerful cross winds will pose a serious risk for drivers, especially for light weight and high profile vehicles. Loose outdoor items should be brought inside or secured properly. Motorists, especially those in high profile vehicles, are urged to drive with extreme caution.

WHERE...Kaiwi Channel, Maui County Windward Waters, Maui County Leeward Waters, Maalaea Bay, Pailolo Channel, Alenuihaha Channel, Big Island Windward Waters, Big Island Leeward Waters and Big Island Southeast Waters. WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Sunday. IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

WHEN...Until 930 PM HST. IMPACTS...Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams. Water over roadways. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 628 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the Kohala Mountain area south to Waimea and Waikaloa Village. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Waikoloa Village, Kapaau, Kawaihae, Kamuela, Kohala Ranch, Puako, Waimanu Valley, Waipio Valley, Pololu Valley, Kukuihaele, Halaula, Puuanahulu, Hawi, Pohakuloa Training Area, Mauna Lani, Waikii, Waikoloa Beach and Mahukona. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action. A Flood Watch is also in effect for the Big Island through late Sunday night HST. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 930 PM HST if flooding; persists.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Considerable flash flooding is possible as a large and powerful kona storm northwest of the state draws deep tropical moisture northward across the islands. Persistent bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms may produce intense rainfall rates, leading to rapid rises in streams and flooding of roads and low lying areas. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
