The National Weather Service in Goodland has issued a Fire Weather Watch for wind and low relative humidity, which is in effect from Friday morning through Friday evening. AFFECTED AREA...Fire Weather Zones 252 Yuma and 253 Kit Carson. TIMING...For the Red Flag Warning, from 11 AM this morning to 7 PM MDT this evening. For the Fire Weather Watch, from Friday morning through Friday evening. WINDS...Today, West 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph. Friday, west 15-25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 11 percent each day. IMPACTS...Dangerous and unpredictable fire behavior. Any fires that develop may rapidly grow and spread out of control. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Comply with burn bans and regulations. Avoid driving on dry grass or brush. Maintain vehicle brakes and tires and secure tow chains to avoid dragging. Never toss lit cigarettes onto the ground. A Fire Weather Watch means that critical fire weather conditions are forecast to occur. Listen for later forecasts and possible red flag warnings.

...Critical Fire Weather Conditions Expected Thursday and Forecast Friday... .West-southwest winds are forecast to increase in speed late morning and into the afternoon today. The best potential for the strongest winds currently lies across Yuma, Dundy, Hitchcock, Red Willow and Cheyenne county Kansas. There is a 20 to 30 percent chance wind gusts could exceed 60 mph across Yuma, Dundy, Cheyenne county Kansas and northern Kit Carson counties today. Winds are forecast to be a bit weaker but still gusting around 25 mph along and south of Highway 40.
