The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Maui in Maui County Until 600 AM HST. At 240 AM HST, radar indicated moderate to heavy rain over the island of Maui. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour. The heaviest rain was falling over the south-facing slopes of Mount Haleakala between Makena and Hamoa. Additionally, Emergency Management continues to report several roads closed in Kihei and Lahaina due to flooding. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... The Island of Maui. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don't drown. At 237 AM HST, radar indicated light to moderate rain over Molokai, with rain falling at a rate of a half inch per hour. Although rainfall rates have diminished, Emergency Management reported that high water continues to flow over Kamehameha Highway near mile marker 6, and that it is currently closed to vehicular traffic. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... The entire island of Molokai. WHERE...KAUAI COUNTY, OAHU, MAUI COUNTY WHEN...Until 6 AM HST Sunday. IMPACTS...Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines and damage roofs. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Strong winds may lead to property damage. Hazardous driving conditions due to powerful cross winds will pose a serious risk for drivers, especially for light weight and high profile vehicles. IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.
