...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 5 PM HST THIS AFTERNOON FOR THE ISLAND OF HAWAII IN HAWAII COUNTY... At 148 PM HST, radar indicated heavy rain continuing to fall over the Puna and Kau districts along the southeast slopes of the Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour with more rain expected. Additionally, Emergency Management reported Highway 11 was closed between mile marker 50 to 51, and Pahala is now cut off. HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Significant and life threatening flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low lying areas. Multiple public road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep terrain. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... The Kau and Puna districts. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don't drown. FLASH FLOOD...RADAR AND GAUGE INDICATED; FLASH FLOOD DAMAGE THREAT...CONSIDERABLE

...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM HST SUNDAY BIG ISLAND LOWER ELEVATIONS... WHAT...Southwest winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 70 mph. WHERE...Big Island lower elevations. WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Sunday. IMPACTS...Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines and damage roofs. Power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Strong winds may lead to property damage. Hazardous driving conditions due to powerful cross winds will pose a serious risk for drivers, especially for light weight and high profile vehicles. Loose outdoor items should be brought inside or secured properly. Motorists, especially those in high profile vehicles, are urged to drive with extreme caution.

WHERE...Kaiwi Channel, Maui County Windward Waters, Maui County Leeward Waters, Maalaea Bay, Pailolo Channel, Alenuihaha Channel, Big Island Windward Waters, Big Island Leeward Waters and Big Island Southeast Waters. WHEN...Until 6 PM HST Sunday. IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

IMPACTS...Significant flooding may occur due to the overflow of streams and drainages. Roads in several areas may be closed, along with property damage in urban or low lying spots due to runoff. Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Considerable flash flooding is possible as a large and powerful kona storm northwest of the state draws deep tropical moisture northward across the islands. Persistent bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms may produce intense rainfall rates, leading to rapid rises in streams and flooding of roads and low lying areas. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
