HAZARD...Wind gusts 34 knots or greater and small hail. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Expect wind gusts in excess of 34 knots, suddenly higher waves, lightning and heavy downpours. ...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS APPROACHING THE ATLANTIC WATERS FROM CAPE CANAVERAL TO NEW SMYRNA BEACH... The areas affected include... Flagler Beach to Volusia-Brevard County Line 0-20 nm... Volusia-Brevard County Line to Sebastian Inlet 0-20 nm... At 425 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots and small hail. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near New Smyrna Beach to near Mims to near Patrick Air Force Base, moving north at 20 knots. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect gusty winds to around 30 knots, locally higher waves, and lightning strikes. Boaters should seek safe harbor immediately until these storms pass. These strong thunderstorms will likely produce winds to around 30 knots, and could pose a serious hazard for boaters. A special marine warning may eventually be required when these strong thunderstorms reaches the nearshore waters. Boaters should consider heading for shore before these strong thunderstorms arrives. Frequent cloud to water lightning is occurring with these storms. If caught on the open water stay below deck and, if possible, avoid ungrounded metal objects. Remember, lightning can strike beyond 10 miles away from a thunderstorm.
