The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a Special Marine Warning for... Tidal Potomac from Indian Head to Cobb Island MD... Until 315 PM EDT. At 217 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts were located along a line extending from near Smallwood State Park to near Brent Point to 6 nm southwest of Fairview Beach, moving northeast at 35 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts in excess of 48 knots and waterspouts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Boaters could easily be thrown overboard by suddenly higher wind and waves capsizing their vessel. Boats could suffer significant damage in high winds. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Locations impacted include... Potomac Creek, Widewater, Maryland Point, Nanjemoy Creek, Port Tobacco River, Smallwood State Park, Quantico, Swan Point, Mathias Point, U.S. 301 Nice Memorial Bridge, Popes Creek, Brent Point, Fairview Beach, and Indian Head.
