IMPACT...Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles. Locations impacted include... Arlington, Alexandria, Columbia, Germantown, Centreville, Waldorf, Dale City, Rockville, Bethesda, Gaithersburg, Reston, Annandale, Clinton, Olney, Pikesville, Springfield, College Park, South Riding, Fort Washington, and Herndon. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning are occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Torrential rainfall is occurring with these storms, and may lead to flash flooding. Tidal Potomac from Key Bridge to Indian Head MD... Until 1000 PM EDT. At 837 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms capable of producing waterspouts were located along a line extending from 26 nm west of Key Bridge to 24 nm southwest of Potomac Creek, moving northeast at 65 knots. HAZARD...Wind gusts in excess of 48 knots and waterspouts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Boaters could easily be thrown overboard by suddenly higher wind and waves capsizing their vessel. Boats could suffer significant damage in high winds. Waterspouts can easily overturn boats and create locally hazardous seas. Locations impacted include... A sudden onset of strong winds are expected behind the cold front this evening. IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects.
