...GALE WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM HST SUNDAY... WHAT...South winds 20 to 35 kt with gusts up to 45 kt and seas 9 to 14 feet expected. WHERE...Big Island Windward Waters, Big Island Leeward Waters and Big Island Southeast Waters. WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to 6 AM HST Sunday. IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Gale Warning means winds of 34 to 47 knots are imminent or occurring. Operating a vessel in gale conditions requires experience and properly equipped vessels. It is highly recommended that mariners without the proper experience seek safe harbor prior to the onset of gale conditions.

IMPACTS...Minor flooding on roads, poor drainage areas, and in streams. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1109 AM HST, radar indicated heavy rain over the Puna and Kau Districts of the Big Island. Rain was falling at a rate of 0.5 to 1.5 inches per hour. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Puna and Kau Districts of the Big Island. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Flood Watch is also in effect for the Big Island through Sunday night. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 230 PM HST if flooding; persists.

Landslides may also occur in areas with steep terrain. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Considerable flash flooding is possible beginning later today as a large and powerful kona storm northwest of the state draws deep tropical moisture northward across the islands. Persistent bands of heavy rain and thunderstorms may produce intense rainfall rates, leading to rapid rises in streams and flooding of roads and low lying areas. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should Flash Flood Warnings be issued.
