...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM CDT MONDAY FOR BREEZY WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY FOR ZAPATA, JIM HOGG, STARR, BROOKS, NORTHERN AND SOUTHERN HIDALGO AS WELL AS THE INLAND AND COASTAL PORTIONS OF KENEDY, WILLACY AND CAMERON COUNTIES, NOT INCLUDING THE BARRIER ISLANDS... WINDS...Northerly at 20 to 30 mph, gusting as high as 35 to 45 mph. RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 10-30 percent. IMPACTS...Any fire that develops will catch and spread quickly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.

Fire weather concerns are further heightened by the fact that cured fuels remain abundant across our region, which is in an ongoing D2 to D4 (Severe to Exceptional) Drought.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects, such as garbage cans, outdoor furniture, and trampolines. If there is time, trim or remove dead tree limbs.
