...FLASH FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1 AM CDT SATURDAY FOR NORTHWESTERN ALLAMAKEE, WINNESHIEK, SOUTHEASTERN HOUSTON, WESTERN VERNON, SOUTHEASTERN LA CROSSE AND SOUTHWESTERN MONROE COUNTIES... At 1033 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... La Crosse, Decorah, Viroqua, Westby, Cashton, Calmar, Ossian, Stoddard, Coon Valley, New Albin, Brownsville, Spillville, Fort Atkinson, Ridgeway, Springville, Portland, Rockland, Ontario, Wilmington and Reno. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. IMPACTS...At 14.5 feet, Two roads north of Viola may be under water. Water may be over Highway 131, 3 miles north of Viola, near Ski Hill Road, and also over Simmons Flat Road about a mile north of town. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 5:00 PM CDT Friday the stage was 12.1 feet. - Bankfull stage is 13.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage late tomorrow morning to a crest of 14.5 feet early Sunday morning.
