WHAT...For the Wind Advisory, south winds 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph, shifting west late tonight. Isolated gusts to 60 mph possible. For the Dense Fog Advisory, visibility one quarter mile or less in dense fog. WHERE...Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York. WHEN...For the Dense Fog Advisory, until 1 AM EDT Tuesday. For the Wind Advisory, until 4 AM EDT Tuesday. IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Scattered tree limbs, as well as isolated trees and powerlines could be blown down. Power outages possible. Locally damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph are possible with any stronger thunderstorm activity this evening into tonight. This activity will be addressed by Special Weather Statements or Severe Thunderstorm Warnings as needed. Low visibility could make driving conditions hazardous. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Seas 12 to 17 feet. WHERE...Sandy Hook NJ to Montauk Point NY out 20 nm. WHEN...For the Dense Fog Advisory, until 2 AM EDT Tuesday. For the Gale Warning, until 6 AM EDT Tuesday. IMPACTS...Strong winds will cause hazardous seas which could capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility. Low visibility will make navigation difficult. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... ...THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE WATERS SOUTH OF WESTERN AND CENTRAL LONG ISLAND... The areas affected include... Sandy Hook NJ to Moriches Inlet NY out 40 nm... Long Island South Shore Bays... At 646 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 nm SE of Axel Carlson Reef to 8 nm SW of Shark River Reef to 25 nm SW of Buoy 44025, moving NE at 65 kt. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Mariners can expect a few lightning strikes and heavy downpours. Meanwhile, dense fog continues to reduce visibilities to below 1 nm. Reduce your speed, and keep a lookout for other vessels, buoys, and breakwaters. Keep your navigation lights on. If not equipped with radar, you should consider seeking safe harbor.
