...FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 1215 AM EDT WEDNESDAY... WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected. Areas of ponding water on roadways and mainly nuisance flooding of low-lying areas has been reported. WHERE...A portion of western New York, including the following counties, Erie and Wyoming. WHEN...Until 1215 AM EDT. IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 618 PM EDT, the public reported heavy rain in the warned area due to rounds of thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. Between 1.5 and 2.25 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area before a break in the rainfall is expected. However, additional rainfall will be possible again later this evening, which may further exacerbate the situation. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... West Seneca, Lackawanna, Hamburg, East Aurora, Evans, Boston, Eden, Marilla, Perry, Warsaw, Bennington, Colden, Orchard Park, Blasdell, Attica, Angola, North Collins, Wales Center, Billington Heights and Elma Center. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... IMPACTS...At 10.0 feet, Flood stage, flooding along right bank a half mile to a mile downstream from Gowanda, mostly in industrial and commercial areas. Watch for developing problems along Thatcher Creek in Gowanda and at Sunset Bay at the mouth near Lake Erie. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 2:15 PM EDT Tuesday the stage was 3.44 feet. - Bankfull stage is 8.0 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to rise above flood stage just after midnight tonight to a crest of 11.0 feet just after midnight tonight. WHERE...Portions of western New York and the northern Finger Lakes Region. WHEN...Through Wednesday evening. IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Area creeks and streams are running high and could flood with more heavy rain. ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - Multiple rounds of showers and embedded thunderstorms continue through tonight which may result in 1" to 1.5", with localized amounts of 2" if thunderstorms repeat over the same area. Excess runoff from this rainfall may cause area waterways to reach or exceed bankfull stage. General flooding away from area waterways will also be possible during this timeframe, especially in typical low-lying and poor drainage areas. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
