...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 1130 AM EDT FOR ROCKINGHAM...WESTERN PITTSYLVANIA...EASTERN HENRY AND SOUTHEASTERN FRANKLIN COUNTIES AND THE CITY OF MARTINSVILLE... At 1059 AM EDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near Southern Smith Mountain Lake to near Monroeton, moving east at 40 mph. HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. Locations impacted include... Eden... Reidsville... Martinsville... Wentworth... Axton... Penhook... and Mayfield. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 200 PM EDT for north central North Carolina...and south central, central, southwestern and west central Virginia. Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the basement or small central room in a sturdy structure. Prepare immediately for DAMAGING WINDS. For your safety, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Stay away from windows.
