Giant Pandas will soon be arriving at Zoo Atlanta in Georgia!

In a TikTok posted by ABC News Live, a female Panda named Ping Ping and a male panda named Fu Shuang will be introduced and "loaned" to the zoo as part of "a new international research agreement on Giant Panda conservation.

"Both pandas were born in a research base in China," the outlet confirmed, noting that the Giant Pandas are considered a "vulnerable species."

In a statement shared by Zoo Atlanta, the organization said that the "International Cooperative Research Agreement on Giant Panda Conservation was initiated between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association."

“Zoo Atlanta is delighted and honored to yet again be trusted as stewards of this treasured species and to partner with the China Wildlife Conservation Association on the continued conservation and research efforts that are the most important outcomes of this cooperation,” Zoo Atlanta's President and CEO, Raymond B. King, said. “We can’t wait to meet Ping Ping and Fu Shuang and to welcome our Members, guests, city, and community back to the wonder and joy of giant pandas.”

Ping Ping and Fu Shuang will be the first pandas to return to Zoo Atlanta since 2024.

In their statement, the zoo also revealed that it had another agreement with China in 1999, which brought Pandas Lun Lun and Yang Yang to the zoo in 2006. The pair left back in 2016, and their youngest offspring, Ya Lun and Xi Lun, left the zoo in 2024.

"In addition to these accomplishments, which included the successful rearing of two sets of twins, Zoo Atlanta’s partnership with colleagues in China forged a longtime history of collaboration and information exchange toward shared goals of the professional care, study, and conservation of the species," the zoo continued in a statement. "Zoo Atlanta’s conservation support has benefited habitat restoration, nature reserve management, ranger support, etc."

There is no official date set for the Giant Pandas' arrival at the zoo, but Zoo Atlanta said it would share additional information with the community once it is confirmed.
