An iconic, one-way road into Japan’s Northern Alps is now open. It’s an unmistakable sign of spring in the region and an ironic one, because the route is lined with giant walls of snow that you have to see to believe. It takes weeks to clear and carve out the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route which sees hundreds of thousands of tourists every year.
