On November 30, 1954, Ann Hodges became the only confirmed person in recorded history to be struck by a meteorite when a nine-pound space rock crashed through her Alabama home while she was napping. Witnesses reported a bright red fireball streaking across the sky, and locals initially feared it was a Soviet attack. While Ann suffered severe bruising, her neighbor struck gold by finding another fragment of the same meteorite in his yard and selling it for enough money to buy both a house and a car. With odds of being hit at 1:1.6 million — making you more likely to be struck by a meteorite than win the lottery. Sounds like it’s time to start looking for space rocks and stop playing the lottery.
