A gray wolf has entered Sequoia National Park for the first time since 1924. This remarkable moment is the first of its kind in more than a century.

Footage below shows this gray wolf in her new habitat, calmly playing with what appears to be a stick. This conservation milestone was first reported by National Park News.

According to National Park News, scientists have used a tracking device to trace this gray wolf’s lone journey across hundreds of miles through California. Apparently, this gray wolf has been on quite a journey.

She was originally seen in Los Angeles County this past February and has since racked up many more miles in her travels to arrive at Sequoia National Park.

According to this report, she was born into a wolf pack residing in Plumas County in California, which is located northeast of Sacramento.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife has come to the conclusion that she is searching for a mate after months of tracking her movements. Wildlife officials have stated that wolves were previously eradicated from the Golden State in 1924.

However, they are starting to make a comeback. Thankfully, gray wolves are currently protected by both federal and state laws in California.

After Being Wiped Out 100 Years Ago, California’s Wolves Are Finally Returning

Instagram viewers had a lot to say about this video. Many viewers exclaim that they cannot imagine how wild it must be to spot an animal like this for the first time in more than a century: “Imagine being the first person to spot a wolf there again after 100 years.”

Viewers also remarked that this gray wolf coming to Sequoia National Park represents a victory for Mother Nature, while also issuing a stern warning about why people should leave wolves alone: “Nature coming back into balance. Humans need to leave them alone! This is beautiful to see and very much needed. Wolves used to be a part of most of the ecosystems across the US. Humans need to allow them to thrive just as nature intended.”
