Crews from Kentucky's Boyle County Fire Department pulled off a successful water rescue Sunday morning of a rather unusual victim: a cow stranded in a lake.

The department was dispatched by the Danville 911 Communications Center at approximately 9:46 a.m. on Sunday, June 7, after a report of a cow stuck in a lake near Wells Landing Road outside of Danville.

Both the department's Water Rescue Team and Large Animal Rescue Team responded. Upon arrival, crews located the cow in the water and deployed rescue boats to reach the animal safely. Personnel then secured the cow to a boat and carefully guided it back toward shore.

But reaching land didn't end the ordeal. Firefighters faced additional challenges from the rocky terrain and a steep embankment, working together to move the animal through the rocks and up the hillside to a secure location.

It's unclear how long the cow had been in the water before it was discovered. Despite the ordeal, the animal appeared to be in stable condition and is expected to make a full recovery.
