ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A quiet weather pattern continues today as mostly cloudy skies dominate the region. Highs will reach the upper 80s, with only a 20% chance of an afternoon storm.

Most of the day will remain dry, making it a good day to get outdoor plans in before the heat intensifies.

Forecast highs today

Heat builds this weekend

The pattern changes dramatically starting Friday as heat moves into north Georgia. Temperatures will climb into the 90s this weekend and reach the mid-90s by early next week. But it’s not just the temperature — the heat index is expected to approach 100 degrees by Saturday and Sunday.

This kind of heat requires caution. Limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours, stay hydrated and check on elderly neighbors and pets. Air conditioning will be essential.

Weekend storms possible, then high pressure takes over

Isolated afternoon and early evening storms are possible this weekend as the heat builds, but widespread rain is not expected. By next week, high pressure will strengthen, bringing drier conditions and continued heat.
