FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAYS Today and Friday:

Today: It won’t rain all day, but isolated to scattered storms are possible this morning and this afternoon with heavier rain likely later this evening and tonight. There is a low risk of severe storms that could produce strong winds during the afternoon and early evening. The Flood Watch you see above goes into effect this afternoon, but the heaviest wave of rain is expected late this evening into Friday morning. Flooding is possible in isolated spots through the evening, but the risk of heavier rain and flash flooding increases overnight into Friday morning. If bands of heavier rain set up around the St. Louis metropolitan area, the Friday morning commute could be very messy.

Friday: While the Flood Watch only goes through Friday morning, we could see additional flooding in spots Friday afternoon & evening as a front stalls and more storms bubble up. Friday’s storms will be off and on all day, likely focused wherever the front has stalled. Right now, we think that’s near the I-70. Once again, there is a low risk of severe storms during the afternoon and early evening Friday.

Early estimates of total rainfall from Today through Friday night range from 1″ to 3″, but some areas could see 3-4″+. Exactly where the area of heaviest rain sets up is still uncertain, so check back for updates

Saturday: The stalled front slowly begins to lift northward, triggering some new thunderstorm development in the morning and afternoon. Meanwhile, it will be a bit warmer and even more humid.

Dangerous Heat Next Week: Temperatures turn hotter by Sunday, signaling the start of a long stretch of dangerous heat and humidity. Preliminary calculations indicate a top heat index anywhere from 100 to 110 every afternoon from Sunday through next week! Additional First Alert Weather Days are likely during this period as we brace for a nearly week-long run of intense summer heat.
