The Timber Fire burning near California’s iconic Big Sur coastline has grown to nearly 5 square miles since Saturday. The fire has forced evacuations at some of Big Sur’s most famous destinations, including the Alila Ventana Big Sur resort, the Post Ranch Inn and Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn. Nepenthe restaurant and the Henry Miller Memorial Library have also been closed. All state parks in Big Sur are closed, including Point Sur State Historic Park, Andrew Molera State Park, Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park. As of Tuesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said Highway 1 was closed between the Fernwood Resort to the north and Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park Vista Point (Mile post marker 37) to the south.
