Some people consider Labor Day to be the unofficial end to summer, and this year, the holiday weekend has a summery outlook: sun and storms. A dome of high pressure will be in charge of the weather for much of the country, keeping the Southern Plains, Central Plains and mid-Mississippi Valley sunny and scorching, with highs in the upper 90s to low triple digits for major cities like Dallas, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, Missouri and Nashville. Meanwhile, thunderstorms will dance around the edges of the dome and impact the Southeast, Gulf Coast, upper Midwest and Rockies, including New Orleans, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami, Minneapolis and Houston.
