Some homeowners across Texas are hosing down their own houses, but it's not as strange as it seems. Much of the state sits on expansive clay soil that can shrink and pull away from a home's foundation during hot, dry weather. Experts say watering the soil around your foundation can help prevent damage, but the trick only works for homes built on the right type of clay soil.
