Shivering with cold or sweating from the heat, for me there’s almost no in-between when it comes to working at my desk. Most offices tend to err on the side of cooler rather than warmer, at least, that’s according to my office mates who are notoriously cold all the time.

And if you work from home, having a lot of computer equipment, crowded room space, animals or plenty of windows are factors that can heat up an office. Then comes the age old battle - do you bump down the thermostat and cause everyone else in the household to freeze? Your energy bill certainly won’t thank you.

So if you’re in the market for a small desk fan this season, we’ve been doing the searching and found a few highly rated options. If you prefer simple and effective, consider the Honeywell Turboforce, but if you’re more inclined towards style and serviceability, we’ve got you covered with a few other honorable mentions. Don’t forget to check out all of our other must-have summer essentials you need to keep yourself cool, starting with our top 10 list of best portable coolers.

Honeywell Turboforce Fan, HT-904 (White) and (Black)

Price: $14.99 at Amazon

Ratings: 4.6-stars; 157,000+ company ratings on Amazon

The Honeywell Turboforce Fan comes with three speeds and a 90-degree pivoting head. It can simply be plopped onto your desk table, or comes with a wall mount if you’d like it in a more discrete placement. According to the company page, this little fan also has enough power that you can feel the air circulation from up to 25 feet away. However, a few of the reviewers noted the air movement is more like two feet on the low settings, and maybe five feet on the max settings. It comes with a six-foot cable for easy placement.

What The Reviewers Say

Customers seem pretty happy with the overall quality, performance and value of the Honeywell Turboforce fan. It has over 157,000+ global company ratings on Amazon, with 79% giving it 5-stars.

One of the latest reviews during this heatwave called it "small but powerful" and going on to say, "We are in the middle of a heat wave. 95 during day and low 70's at night. My air conditioner needed a break. I put this little fan in my living room and I am amazed how far it blows the air and how much it is circulating the air. Even on highest speed it is relatively quiet too. Definitely worth price, going to order another."

One reviewer gushed, "I bought this little fan for use at my desk in a hot bedroom that cannot have a window air conditioner...the first day I used it, we had the unending heat wave in New York and I thought it would be an added boost to the other two floor fans I was using. I put it on a side sofa table in the living room instead of the super hot bedroom, and the dog immediately laid down in front of it and went to sleep." They went on to say that they were tempted to return the big floor fans that they had purchased at the same time after it powerfully cooled the area.

Another said, “I just started using this new one and it’s as good as the last one…It gets very hot in the spring and summer nights down south, so this was essential. The fan is soothingly quiet, and though small, can whip up typhoon-level gusts on its highest setting.” They went on to finish up the review with, “I truly can’t believe such a quality item is so affordable considering the astronomical prices charged for some other fans out there. Skip the bells and whistles, unless you really want them, and go with this.”

As for some of the complaints, a handful mentioned that cleaning the fan blades is almost impossible, since it’s hard to remove the screws to get to them. Others mentioned that while it is a decent fan, it’s not going to be moving quite the amount of air the company claims, with some saying it provides more of a light breeze.

It is the quietest pedestal fan I’ve ever owned, and it has a misting attachment that can be used when you’re outdoors. It is corded and cordless. It’s very pricey when compared to others on the market, but if you’re using this in a bedroom or office and can’t have any background noise, I highly recommend checking this out.
