November Temperature Forecast Favors A Mild Final Month Of Fall For Most

T​hose hoping November might deliver increasing bouts of early-season snow and cold might have to be patient since the forecast is shaping up to be a mild one in much of the Lower 48.

Fall's final full month could be warmer than average in much of the central and eastern U.S. A broad area from the Rockies to the Appalachians and New England is favored to see above-average temperatures in November, according to the updated outlook released Wednesday by The Weather Company and Atmospheric G2.

P​ortions of the Midwest and Plains might see temperatures the farthest above average, including from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Oklahoma City and Dallas-Fort Worth. All three of those cities have already seen a top 10 warmest fall as of Oct. 28, with the Twin Cities on pace to have its warmest autumn on record.

November Temperature Outlook

T​he mild forecast doesn't mean we won't have cold fronts bringing cooler days at times. But your heating system might get less of a workout than usual ahead of winter.

W​est and East Coasts will see temperatures closer to average. Locations from around New York City southward to Florida are predicted to have temperatures near or slightly above average. The Southwest might skew a bit below average, while the Northwest might tend slightly above average.

A d​ry October could give way to a somewhat wetter November in Midwest. Precipitation might be near or slightly above average in the new month from the Great Lakes to the Ohio and mid-Mississippi valleys and portions of the Central and Southern Plains. That would be a change from what has been one of the driest Octobers so far in many cities across those same regions.

T​hat nation's southeast and northwest corners might have the best odds of being drier-than-average in November.

November Precipitation Outlook

November's average temperatures mark the beginning of the transition to winter. Average highs typically range from the 30s and 40s in the northern tier to the 60s and 70s in most of the South.

L​ow temperatures typically plunge into the teens, 20s and 30s in the northern states and Rockies. The South sees lows drop into the 30s, 40s, 50s and a few 60s in South Florida.
