Donning medical face masks and mouse ears, people flocked to Disneyland Shanghai for its first opening since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down businesses across the globe.

Shanghai's Disneyland theme park reopened on Monday after a nearly four-month closure, South China Morning Post reported. The tickets for the reopening were sold out within minutes of going on sale on May 8.

The park is employing anti-virus controls, such as limited visitor numbers, mask requirements, social distancing enforcement and fever screenings.

With warmer weather and new coronavirus cases and deaths falling near-zero in the country, China has been reopening tourist sites such as the Great Wall and Beijing's Forbidden City palace complex, according to the AP. Shops and offices have been permitted to reopen but the country is still keeping cinemas, bars, karaoke parlors and other businesses closed for now.

The Disneyland park is requiring reservations for visitors, with assigned times to enter the park. Visitors are also required to show government-issued identification and use a smartphone app issued by the Shanghai city government which tracks their health and enables contact tracing with anyone who may have been exposed to COVID-19.

Decals on sidewalks and at lines for attractions now show visitors where to stand to leave proper social distancing space between themselves and others. The company said that only one group of visitors per car will be allowed on rides to keep strangers apart.

Some attractions, including children's play areas and indoor shows are still closed within the park, due to government restrictions, Andrew Bolstein, Disneyland Shanghai's senior vice president for operations, told AP.
