Immune To COVID? New Study Suggests Why

The number of coronavirus cases around the world Saturday continued to climb to shocking levels that show normality is a long way off.

Confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide soared above 14 million and the number of deaths neared 600,000, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. In the United States, the number of confirmed cases has hit 3.67 million and there have been nearly 140,000 deaths.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention projects 150,000 to 170,000 COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. by Aug. 8, based on a computer model that combines forecasts from 24 outside institutions and researchers. The states with the greatest likelihood of a larger number of deaths include Arizona, Florida, Idaho, Montana, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, the Virgin Islands, and West Virginia.

The World Health Organization on Friday reported a single-day record of new infections at more than 237,000.

Experts think the actual numbers are higher because of testing shortages.
