As temperatures continue to drop, millions of people around the world are partaking in one of the best parts of the holiday season: Christmas lights!

Americans spent an average of $61 each on holiday decorations in 2019, according to a consumer spending survey conducted by Prosper Insights and Analytics for the National Retail Federation.  Multiply that number by the U.S. census estimate of Americans in 2019 — more than 330,000,000. That’s a lot of ornaments, tinsel and lights.

Whether you identify with “National Lampoon’s Christmas” character Clark Griswold or the grouchy Grinch, one thing is for sure: these light displays are an eyeful. Click through the slideshow above to see some of the most over-the-top displays we could find from around the world.
