In Lakewood, Colorado, a group of firefighters rushed to the aid of a tiny bird, likely saving its life.

When you step back and think about it, the fact that firefighters are always ready to jump into burning buildings to save people is completely amazing, but what is also amazing is the fact that, when there aren’t any fires to fight, they can often be found assisting animals caught in dangerous situations.

An example of this was seen on Wednesday in Lakewood, Colorado. A resident dropped by a local fire station to say that they had noticed a bird in distress on the lake of a local park. Firefighters were able to locate the avian (believed to be a Merganser), retrieve it from the lake, and remove the fishing line and hook that had been caught around its neck – all in minutes. Footage from the scene showed the bird swiftly returning to the water, its fate vastly improved by a few minutes of a firefighting crew’s time. Take a look:
