A Look at Easter Through the Ages (PHOTOS)

In 1878, Rutherford B. Hayes hosted the first White House Easter Egg Roll, and it has been a tradition for the last 143 years. Not many Easter traditions have changed over the years, but the style of Easter bonnets and white gloves for young girls are largely a thing of the past.

Easter egg dying, chocolate candy, Easter hams and colorful flowers have been a part of the holiday for a very long time. The symbol of the Easter egg, as well as the Easter bunny may have origins in pagan springtime rituals, according to USA Today

The spring holiday is a great excuse to spend some time outdoors, whether for a parade, an Easter egg hunt or any other outdoor activity. Easter is an unofficial beginning to spring activities as the weather warms.
