Torrential rainfall from Florence has led to extensive inland and coastal flooding in the Carolinas as it continues its slow trek northward.

The storm has claimed the lives of more than a dozen people and floodwaters have completely cut off the city of Wilmington, North Carolina.

Major flooding has made some 600 roads impassable throughout North Carolina, including a huge stretch of I-95 from north of Fayetteville north to U.S. 64.

As of Monday, rainfall had totaled over 20 inches in many locations, while some have seen more than 35 inches of rain. Major record river flooding is expected to continue for days, even after the heavy rain has subsided.
