Heavy storms spurred flash flood warnings and water rescues throughout the Tri-State area on Monday. Photos show floodwaters rising in New York City streets as commuters make their way through by car and on foot.

Water rescues were performed in several northern New Jersey towns, as motorists were stranded in cars in rising waters, according to NJ.com. The flooding reached Connecticut and New York as well, and the area saw torrential rain and wind, and there were some reports of hail as severe storms passed through Monday afternoon and early evening.

The flooding inundated highways, roads and subway stations, snarling the Monday evening commute. A portion of New York's A line was down in New York City until Tuesday morning after up to 14 inches of water flooded the Dyckman Street station in Inwood, ABC7 reported.

Several roadways had to be closed in New Jersey and New York as well, including parts of the Bronx River Parkway and portions of the Major Deegan Expressway.
